ChiliPORTS SNMPorts is an industry-standard interface for managing serial ports, modems and RAS connections both locally and remotely. The SNMPorts software provides industry-standard SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) capabilities for ChiliPORTS cards and attached modems. SNMPorts consists of two parts, an SNMP Agent and a Web-based SNMP Manager. The SNMP Agent is the software responsible for requesting ChiliPORTS data from the hardware and responding to queries from any SNMP Manager. It must be installed on the same computer as the ChiliPORTS card. With the SNMPorts Agent, a ChiliPORTS card can be monitored and administered from anywhere on the Internet with any general purpose SNMP Manager, or with the accompanying Web-based SNMPorts Manager. The SNMPorts Manager is a Web-based user interface designed for making requests to the SNMPorts Agent. The SNMPorts Manager is an innovative concept in remote device management. This add-on to the Microsoft Internet Information Server enables ChiliPORTS cards to be monitored and managed from anywhere on the Internet with any of the latest Web browsers. The interface is customized to present ChiliPORTS SNMP data in an understandable and accessible fashion, much more informative than will be displayed by a general purpose SNMP manager. The two components, SNMPorts Agent and SNMPorts Manager, are independent of each other. This means that the Manager does not have to be installed on the same system as the Agent, as long as there is a TCP/IP connection between the two computers. Any standard SNMP Manager has the ability to manage the ChiliPORTS card through the SNMPorts Agent. |
