4.1. RAIDZONE Administrator Main Screen

The RAIDZONE Administrator program is your complete interface to a RAIDZONE Disk Array. It allows you to perform all phases of disk configuration from raw disks to formatted Windows NT file systems; to quickly review the status of all disk array components; and to manage the rebuilding of fault tolerant sets after a drive fails.

The screen contains a graphical display showing disk drives nested inside one or more SmartCan disk enclosures, which are connected to one or more RAIDZONE controller cards. Here is an example:

The overall status of the disk array is stated in words at the top of the screen. In this example, it is All RAIDZONE Devices are Healthy. 10 physical disks configured, 10 found. The status of each individual component is indicated by the color of its icon -- red, yellow or green. You can get detailed status information about any SmartCan enclosure by clicking the Details button below the SmartCan icon. Detailed status information about individual disks is available by clicking the "..." icon at the right end of each disk.

Each disk entry on the screen is divided into three parts. The first part contains information about the physical disk, the second part describes the Disk Level Fault Tolerant status, and the third part describes Partition Level status. In the example, the topmost disk has a physical size of 2446 MB. It is part of a Disk Level Mirror Set called "NT Disk 6", and it is Member 0 (the primary disk) of that mirrored pair. The disk is part of two Partition Level stripe sets, with drive letters "G:" and "H:".

For the disks in a RAIDZONE disk array, the RAIDZONE Administrator program is a complete substitute for the Windows NT Disk Administrator program. Although the two programs use compatible data structures, you should only use RAIDZONE Administrator to configure your disk array.

In general terms, to use RAIDZONE Administrator you first use the mouse to select one or more disks or partitions within disks, then pick a command from the menu to be performed on those disks. For example, to format a partition you would first select the partition with the mouse, then go to the menu and pick Partition - Format.

This section contains a complete description of every menu command in RAIDZONE Administrator. For each menu command, we provide a step-by-step example of how to use the command to accomplish a configuration task.
