ChiliPORTS Features
ChiliPORTS has the power and the intelligence necessary to offload the serial
communications burden from the main CPU in your system. This means you can add
more RAS sessions or serial devices to your server without degrading system
performance.
Serial I/O, which generates an interrupt per character, puts a very heavy load on any
CPU. The purpose of the ChiliPORTS intelligent I/O card is to handle this burden
on-board, freeing your main CPU for other tasks. No host system interrupts are used by
the CHILIPORTS card.
A sophisticated realtime communications operating system runs on the ChiliPORTS
card. It handles the I/O tasks required by Windows NT. All of the on-board software is
downloaded to the card from your computer when the system boots, making it easy to
install new software releases and upgrades.
- Up to 128 Ports on a Single System
- The ChiliPORTS family of cards provide from 4 to 32 ports in a single
slot. Up to 4 cards, or a total of 128 ports, can be installed in a system.
- 386 or 486 CPU
- Every ChiliPORTS card is actually a very powerful computer dedicated completely to I/O processing. Powered by a 32-bit 386 or optional 486 CPU.
- Up to 2MB of RAM
- Each card contains from 512 KB to 2 MB of high speed RAM used for buffering and to runs a real-time communications operating system called Chilix.
- RISC-Based
- The physical I/O handling is performed by RISC-based quadport communications controller chips.
- Full Modem Control
- All ports support full modem control and hardware handshake. Connections are made
using standard modular RJ45 connectors (DB9/DB25 connector panels are optional).
Inexpensive adapters are available for 25-pin D-sub and other standard connectors (one
RJ45-to-DB25 modem adapter and a length of cable is shipped with each card).
- DataScope (For Windows NT Installations only)
- The ChiliPORTS DataScope is a powerful combination of hardware and software that can monitor, record and play back all data and control signals on a serial communications line, With DataScope, you can analyze a complete sequential record of the data from both the transmit and receive channels, with all the associated control and modem signals. The ability to see exactly what transpired, in sequence, helps you to solve even the most difficult of problems.
- ChiliVIEW (For UNIX Installations only)
- ChiliVIEW multi-screen software is available on all ChiliPORTS cards installed under Unix. This onboard software allows you to have multiple full-screen sessions running simultaneously on a single terminal, and switch between them at the touch of a key.
- ChiliPRINT (For UNIX Installations only)
- ChiliPRINT transparent printer software allows you to connect a printer to the AUX port of any compatible terminal, and use it as a standard system printer at the same time as the terminal is being used.
