Electronic components on the ChiliPORTS card and inside your computer are susceptible to electrostatic discharge. Avoid static damage when installing the ChiliPORTS card by following these tips:
Remove the ChiliPORTS card from its antistatic bag, making sure to observe precautions against static discharge.
To practically eliminate the possibility of conflicts with other cards, the ChiliPORTS card uses no IRQ's, no DMA channels, no shared memory, and only a single I/O address for up to four cards.
If you are installing a single ChiliPORTS card in your system, you should leave the card jumpered to the factory settings, and proceed to installation Step 1.2.
The ChiliPORTS card has two user-selectable hardware settings:
You can install 0, 1, or two jumpers horizontally across the two pairs of header pins to select one of four possible I/O addresses. All ChiliPORTS cards in a system must have the same I/O address. Unless you are certain there is a conflict with another card in your system, you should leave these JUMPERS at the factory setting.
Every ChiliPORTS card in a system must have a different card ID. The Card ID is determined by a block of four ID Switches: located at the top edge of the card, near the bracket. When viewed from above (i.e. as it would look once the card is installed in your system), the switch block looks like this.

You use these 4 switches to enter a binary number, where the switch position closest to the card is "0", and farthest from the card is "1". For example, in the above diagram the switches are set to "0111", which is the number "7". Whichever card has the lowest ID number is "Card 1", and so on.
If you are installing only one card, leave the switches as they are set by the factory. If you are installing multiple cards, we suggest the following easy-to-remember Settings:
Remove the screw that holds the slot's cover plate to the rear panel of the computer, and remove the cover plate. Insert the ChiliPORTS card firmly into the expansion slot. Reinstall the screw removed from the cover plate. Next, carefully attach the 4-port, 8-port or 16-port connector panel, or the cable for the 32-port panel, to the 68-pin connector on the back of the ChiliPORTS card. Tighten the two thumb screws.
If you are installing more than one ChiliPORTS card, repeat this step for the other cards.
