ChiliPORTS for Windows NT

Consensys ChiliPORTS RAS Controllers are the first cards specifically designed to support and enhance Microsoft's Remote Access Service (RAS) on Windows NT. RAS users, whether they're across town or halfway around the world, can share network drives, run server-based applications, send and receive mail, and use network printers. In short, they can do on their laptops just about anything they can do at their office desktops.

Remote Access Service on Windows NT

RAS (Remote Access Service) is probably the single most important feature in Microsoft Windows NT. It will certainly have the greatest impact on how we work, because RAS allows any company to start using computers remotely in the same ways they use them inside the office. For example, with RAS you can connect travelling staff's notebook computers to the LAN over phone lines from anywhere in the world, or provide an inexpensive network bridge between a remote site and the main office.

ChiliPORTS and RAS

ChiliPORTS RAS Controllers are the first cards designed to support and enhance RAS. They offer a choice of 8 or 16 ports per card, and are fully compatible with the modems supported by RAS on Windows NT. With ChiliPORTS installed in an NT Server, all of the Windows NT security features are supported, ensuring secure network access for remote users. Each port on a ChiliPORTS controller can be individually set to Dial out only, Receive calls only, or a combination of both. ChiliPORTS ports can also be used as general purpose serial lines to drive printers, terminals, or other RS232 devices as required.

ChiliPORTS RAS controllers have been tested by Microsoft's hardware testing labs and certified compatible with Windows NT 4.0. ChiliPORTS device drivers come as a standard part of the Windows NT 4.0 installation CD, and the latest drivers for all platforms are always available from Consensys Computers.

ChiliPORTS Administration and Installation

ChiliPORTS products get you RASing in a hurry. They include software drivers for all computers running Windows NT, a sample modem connector and cable, a test cable to help resolve wiring problems fast, and an illustrated installation manual with step-by-step instructions for configuring RAS ports on your NT system. The ChiliPORTS software is fully integrated with Windows NT, and all Windows NT Communications and RAS dialog boxes. Each ChiliPORTS card has onboard diagnostic software that can send detailed information to the Windows NT system administrator through our event logging interface.
